Cycling the Road of the Romans

200 years ago, Trier was the capital of the west-Roman empire and at the heart of an economically and culturally prosperous region. Follow the many different tracks of the Romans by bike, from flamboyant imperial buildings to villas and estates, winepresses and aqueducts to temple areas, fortifications and gravestones.

By bike from Trier to Cochem

In 3 legs, each with 45 - 50 km, you cycle from Trier to Cochem. In both stations is a train station available.

Hiking the “Moselhöhenweg“ without luggage from Trier to Zell

In 5 daily stages of 12 to 25 km, this route leads you from Trier, the oldest city in Germany to the small Moselle town of Zell.

Hiking the “Moselhöhenweg“ without luggage from Traben-Trarbach to Kobern-Gondorf

In 5 daily laps of 13 to 20 km, your hike takes you from the art-nouveau city of Traben-Trarbach on the central Moselle to Kobern-Gondorf on the lower Moselle.

Theme trail hike on the Moselle.Experience.Route

6 circular hikes of between 5.5 and 21.5 km. These always take you back to your starting point. You will track a new theme every day. From “Time travel on foot” via the “boxtree path”, the “Apollo path” and the “vie ferrate Calmont” to “Römersteig”, “Stefan-Andres path” and “Rioler Klettersteig”. You will experience a different point of view of the Moselle that is always new and always unique.

Terroir tour of the wine growing region of the Moselle

Along with the Moselle wine advertisement, we will send you on a tour of the fifth largest of the 13 German wine growing regions. Be enchanted by wine, our unique natural product, and our extraordinary landscape. Visit excellent vineyards to sample wines from the Moselle, the Saar and the Ruwer to become acquainted with their elegance.

From Schweich to Brauneberg. The trip begins with a hike of the Rioler vie ferrate, a forest path that is quite steep in certain places. The next day you cycle from Schweich to Piesport. On the following day, you paddle by canoe from Piesport to Brauneberg. Here you can relax for another night.

From Bullay to Kobern-Gondorf. You cycle the first lap from Bullay to Treis-Karden. From there you start your circular hike of the boxtree hiking trail on the following day. After a short taxi ride on the next morning, you paddle from Burgen to Kobern-Gondorf where you spend the last night.

From Zell to Treis-Karden. Experience the Moselle from the river. Whether in twos or with a group – we guarantee immense enjoyment. You paddle from Zell to Treis-Karden in three laps. Each of the laps covers 15 km.

Tour of the Castles

Once upon a time, the Moselland was the land of knights. Countless castles and ruins line the river bends of the Moselle, the Saar and Ruwer. Almost all these sites can be visited and they invite their guests to time travel to the Middle Ages - with knight's banquets, castle festivities and special entertainment for children. Join us on a tour of the castles!

You can find the answer “on the road of the Romans”. Discover a lot of exciting destinations by means the children’s guide “the Romans on the Moselle“: for example, distinguished villas, a water castle and a mysterious copper mine which invites you to climb into the mine, winepresses und temple areas. You can select any starting point for your excursions. Simply tell us where you would like to spend the night! And if you send the solution of the quiz in the guide to us after your tour, you will receive a Roman surprise!
