Which village can claim to have its own operetta? Zeltingen-Rachtig can do this.

Not an operetta of world renown, but a work with sparkling melodies, performed by the citizens of Zeltingen-Rachtig with a good portion of mother wit, humour and self-irony. All amateur players, by the way, who pursue their professions during the day - most of them work in viticulture. Wine also plays the leading role in the operetta. The year is 1780, and the winegrowers in the chur-Cölnischen Oberamte Zeltingen-Rachtig covet against their sovereign, the Elector of Cologne. They no longer want to pay the tithe, which is to be produced annually in the form of wine from the excellent Zeltinger vineyards "Zeltinger Himmelreich, Schloßberg Sonnenuhr and Deutschherrenberg".
The Elector was told that the wine was so sour this year that it could not possibly be served at court. When an envoy of the Elector suddenly appears to convince himself of the quality of the wine, the excitement is understandably great. But with a trick, the clever winegrowers manage to trick the inspector. And of course a love story in the operetta must not be missing.

The operetta was created in the 50s, when Zeltingen-Rachtig announced a song competition. The well-known vineyard "Zeltinger Himmelreich" was to be sung about according to the will of the council. The victorious composer Werner Stamm won three weeks of vacation in Zeltingen-Rachtig - and he liked it so much that he wrote an entire operetta about the life of a winegrower and about an almost true event at the end of the 18th century. The world premiere took place in 1955, and now there are 5-6 performances every two years. Since 1980, the open-air theatre has been located on the market square of Zeltingen, which is also the place of action - it couldn't be more authentic. And when the weather doesn't play along, the audience dodges into the Rosenburgsaal of the Kelterhaus Schorlemers (50m from the market place).

In 2019 the time has come again: 6 performances of the widely popular Moseloperette are on the festival programme in July:
Friday, 19th, Saturday, 20th, Tuesday, 23rd, Wednesday, 24th, Friday, 26th and Saturday, 27th July 2019.
