A number of picturesque villages and cities on the Moselle will cast a spell on you with the blaze of Christmas lights and a medieval, half-timbered setting. At the Christmas markets, you can expect atmospheric advent decorations, handmade present ideas and Christmassy treats. In the midst of the scent of almonds, chestnuts and mulled wine, festive trumpet sounds and Christmas carols ensure an atmospheric setting. At the Trier Christmas market, 100 wooden huts link together on the historic Hauptmarkt and Domvorplatz. A similar Christmas fairy tale awaits you at Jesuitenplatz in Coblenz where horse and carriages and skaters move around in endless circles.
The Saarburg Christkindl Christmas market around the waterfall in the romantic Old Town is also unique. In Bernkastel-Kues on the Middle Moselle, the beautifully designed stands of the medieval Christmas market snuggle up to the walls of the houses and churches. The highlight of the Cochem advent magic with its Christmas market is the Castle Christmas at the Reichsburg castle where the Christmas story is performed. In a class all of its own is the underground Mosel-Wein-Nachts-Markt (the Moselle wine and Christmas market) in the historic wine cellars of Traben-Trarbach, which is celebrated over New Year’s Eve into the New Year.
