The atmospheric wine festivals along the Moselle guarantee pure joie de vivre. With live music, regional specialities and the coronation of a new ‘wine queen’, the delicious wines taste even better. The Saarweinfest in Saarburg with wine routes, pageants, fireworks and a view of the river and the castle is a real crowd-puller. In Konz, the Heimat- und Weinfest with its huge party, in Trier, the tradition-steeped Olewiger Weinfest, in Kasel, the introspective Ruwerweinfest and in Schweich, “Das Fest” der Römischen Weinstraße, one of the biggest on the Moselle, attract many a crowd. A mega event is the Weinfest der Mittelmosel in Bernkastel-Kues, which attracts more than 200,000 visitors with its pageants and brilliant fireworks. The international Trachtentreffen der Mosel in Kröv sparkles with groups from all around the world and a floating stage on the Moselle.
Just as attractive: the Moselwein-Festival Traben-Trarbach with cultural and culinary attractions, the Weinfest “Zeller Schwarze Katz” with pageants and musical fireworks, the Treis-Karden Weinfest, the Heimat- und Weinfest Cochem with fireworks at the Reichsburg castle and the Winninger Winzerfest, the biggest of the Terrassenmosel and Germany’s oldest.
Special wine festivals are offered in Ürzig with “Harley und Wein”, in Piesport with “Moselloreley in Flammen” and the Römisches Kelterfest, in Neumagen-Dhron with the Weinschifffest and in Brauneberg with the Wein- und Straßenfest on Nussbaumallee.
Alternatives are offered in the form of public wine tastings or relaxed vineyard festivals, such as in Longuich, where the “Treffpunkt Winzerhof” attracts crowds throughout the season. As a stylish event, the SaarRieslingSommer has become well-established at the end of August with prestigious Saar wineries and the Episcopal wineries in Trier, which also offer tours.
