Description

MAIN HIKING TRACKS OF THE EIFELVEREIN

- The Jakobsweg (1): is reminiscent of the medieval pilgrimage route to the sanctuary of the Apostle St James in Santiago de Compostela (Galicia, Spain). It follows a north-south route with a black wedge > markers from Bonn to Moselkern, via Bad Neuenahr, Maria Laach, Mayen and Monreal.

The last 20 kilometres of this hiking track through the romantic Elzbach valley - past the Eltz and Pyrmont castles - are shown on the "Cochem and Treis-Karden Tourist Region" hiking map.

- Moselhöhenweg M: the Moselhöhenweg - with standardised markers shown with a white M - runs on both sides of the Moselle, over the Eifel and Hunsrück mountains.

On the Eifel side, it begins in Wasserbillig, and heads through Trier, Schweich and Cochem to Koblenz (165 km).

From the district of Karden, the hike heads up the Moselle to Cochem (14 km, approx. 4 hours), and down the Moselle, initially steeply up the vineyards, to Eltz Castle (5 km, approx. 1.5 hours).
