Weingut Thomas Höreth
Thomas Höreth, who comes from a wine merchant family in Franconia, has received his viticultural training, especially in Burgundy. After studying viticulture in Geisenheim, he bought vineyards on the Moselle River in 1968.
The vines of our winery thrive in Winningen, Dieblich, Lehmen, Kobern-Gondorf and Niederfell. There are steep slopes and terraces. On slate, on sandy clay and on loess clay.
We serve Riesling, White and Gray Burgundy, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards of the Old Mill Thomas Höreth consist of steep and steep slopes, which can be managed only by hand because of their extreme inclination of over 97%. But just this tendency leads to optimal sunlight. Since the Middle Ages, attempts have been made in such situations to reduce the slope by creating terraces. The vineyard walls drawn to form the landscape of the Terrassenmosel and give it a unique character. They provide habitat for heat-loving, rare animals such as the emerald lizard or the Apollo butterfly and endangered plants. They prevent the soil from being worn away and, thanks to their supporting function, make winegrowing on the slopes possible in the first place.
We are proud of our walls, some of which have been mortified since the Middle Ages, that run through our vineyards. In order to preserve this cultural treasure, we carry out extensive measures in cooperation with the European Union and the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, Food, Viticulture and Forestry Rhineland-Palatinate so that future generations can enjoy this unique sight.
