Moselle region advent atmosphere
In December, many cities and villages along the Moselle enchant their guests and residents with Christmas markets, which cannot be rivalled in terms of romance. Browsing and having a feast… that easily fills a day trip during advent. The big markets in Trier and Coblenz, which have a myriad of stalls selling fragrances, delicious food and handcrafted items on the various squares of their Old Towns, have been attracting thousands of people, even tourists from far away, for centuries. The pleasant pre-Christmas atmosphere is also ensured by the supporting musical programme, which is never missing. However, if you want to exchange the merry advent hustle and bustle of the big cities for a cosier atmosphere, you should also pay a day trip to the many smaller markets on the Moselle. All of them are cosy, some of them are even really spectacular: the Christmas market in Bernkastel-Kues, for example, is famous across Germany for its incomparable half-timbered setting, which shines even more magically than usual in the advent blaze of lights. The Traben-Trarbach WeinNachtsMarkt (Wine & Christmas market) leads its visitors through the underworld of the festively decorated wine cellars, which are completely dominated by cuisine, art and lots of creativity. The Cochem Castle Christmas fascinates its guests with a special performance of the Christmas story, in which live animals are amongst the stars.
