The Terrassenmosel: breathtakingly beautiful
On the Terrassenmosel, there are a particularly large number of sloping vineyards. The best Rieslings in the world grow here, and climbing trails lead through several spectacular vineyards. But a day on the Terrassenmosel is also a unique experience for the less trained and sporty. If you stay inside the medieval walls, you will also have the pleasure of experiencing the flair of this landscape, in which the sunlight is absorbed and intensified by the river and the high-rise shale formations. The Terrassenmosel tour begins directly with an architectural gem in Beilstein: the tiny wine village with small and fine gastronomy is so exceptionally romantic that it has even been used as the ultimate backdrop for romantic love films several times. Further downstream, a pleasantly guided stroll through the bustling maze of alleys in Cochem and a climb to the imposing Reichsburg castle above the city alone constitute an ideal half-day trip. There is something to discover and to feast upon everywhere, for example in the Senfmühle (mustard mill). Travellers can then enjoy a calmer, almost meditative conclusion to the day by walking through the historic Karden abbey district, which belongs to the twin city Treis-Karden. In the Middle Ages, one of the most significant cultural and religious centres of the whole Moselle region was located here.
