The Moselle wine-producing area

World-famous, top-quality wines, culinary diversity, culture wherever you go and more and more landscapes to see. The plus points of the Moselle wine-producing area with the Obermosel, Middle Moselle, Terrassenmosel, Saar and Ruwer are more than convincing. More than 5,000 hectares of self-contained areas of Riesling cultivation are true world-beaters – as are the steep slopes on which the grapes are ripened. Observing the harvest on the steep slopes and vineyard terraces commands great respect for the workers. From almost perpendicular slopes, which time and again turn into shallower slopes, your attention is drawn to the Moselle and its tributaries, the Saar and Ruwer. They tirelessly wind their way, constantly meandering and seemingly time and again changing their flow directions.

The character-strong wines mature in this idyll and then go on to challenge one another. They thrive on slate, clay or shell limestone – and at the same time on historic soil in Trier, the oldest city, and Neumagen-Dhron, Germany’s oldest wine village. From Thionville, the Moselle is navigable. From the French and along the Germany-Luxembourg borders, they wind their way 240 kilometres to the Deutsches Eck (German Corner) in Coblenz, where the Moselle flows into the Rhine.
